Trade In Value

Hi, I was wondering how a dealer would trade in a used car for a used car? We have a 98 Explorer and the KBB value was $6800 for a retail trade in, and the vehicle I would like to purchase is listed at $9995. How much of a difference do you think I would have to pay for this vehicle after we negociated him down on the car and I traded in the 98 Explorer after taxes and stuff? BTW, the car is a 98 Maxima 5 spd with 49000 miles and all options, and the explorer is a 98 sohc xlt with all options

They will screw you big time on trade. If KBB says $6800 trade, they will offer you between $4000-$5000. My guess is closer to the lower end of the $4K range. They will play the "we can only pay wholesale" BS.

Since I don't know any sales tax figures, license fees, etc where you live, I'm guessing your X + $4,000-$6,000 to purchase that car.
