I have had 2 different trailer wiring kits in my factory wiring slot for my 97 explorer, however, both don't power my trailer lights (that do work with my truck). I had a friend test the current and there is current, up to the end of the factory connection under the rear bumper. Has anyone encountered this problem of know of any fixes? Help!

you might need the factory adapter

I bought the factory adapter p/n F67Z-13A576-AB which adapts from the Ford locking connector to a normal flat 4 trailer connector. The connector to plug into is located on the last crossmember just to the right (passenger) side of the rear license plate. You should see 4 wires leading to that connector.

Also, the trailer connection is isolated from the normal lighting circuit on its own fused circuit, but you said you have current so that probably isn't the problem.

Can anyone tell me where I can get this adapter and how much it costs?

ebay

I think I searched and found one on ebay. You can also try Auto Zone, they carry some, but maybe not for your exact explorer,y ou have to check your wiring hookup and compare. Pep boys, etc.

Cool, thanks a lot. One last thing though: What can I expect to pay for this thing?

advance auto has it for like 12 bucks... they will probably have to next day order it though.... i work there and sell alot of them so i know

Uh...try just about anywhere that sells trailer hookup parts...try your local Wal-Mart or places that sell trailers for lawnmowers and such. Cost you maybe 7 or 8 bucks, and no need to wait a day.
