Hi
I got my ScanGauge ll and got it connected.
Today in the AM I drove about 24 miles into town. Along the way at about 8 mil into the trip the temp was about 146. Then I hit a long incline it got up to around 157F doing about 40mph below 3rpm's. On the way down it returned to around 147. Stopped for about 15 min's and returned home same route. Getting out of town stop lights and traffic it got up to 157 and 164 then open road.
M rig is 01 explorer sport trac 4.0l V6 4x4. I have a cooler in front of the rad looks around 9 long and 5 high. automatic tran's.

What should my temps be around what number? What is close to 2 high of a temp? When should I pull over before its to late when I'm towing my camper?

I could get you elevations if that would helps. Not towing anything at this time.

Making the same trip this afternoon.

So starting off from home to town elevation 1242. 71/2 miles at 1155 trans fluid temp (TFT) was 136F. going up the incline 40 mph 2000rpm 136F TFT 1304 elevation.
14 min's from home 40mph elevation 605 TFT at 135f. 630 elevation 65mph Tft 138.
In town with traffic lights 40-45 mph TFT 143f 29 min's from home.
at elevation 580ft TFT 139. climbing back up hill 2600 RPM's 38-39 mph TFT 146. Elevation 1053 at 40 MPH 2000RPM's TFT 160.
bottom of hill 1252 elevation 45 MPH TFT 157. Home Elevation at 1300 TFT 148.

So what do you think? Like I said the tran's cooler in front of rad is 9 by 5 about. was there when we got the trac. never had the transmission power flushed just had it changed and new filter and synthetic oil put in. wondering if a flush is a good idea to clean the cooler core?

Thanks for your help

My 6-speed settles in at 160-170 when warmed up, and 190-200 when towing. But that's normal for the Ford 6-speeds, and reinforces the need for synthetic fluid. Prior to this vehicle, I'd heard that these temps would be bad news.

So someone with a 5-speed will need to chime in to give you the info you need for your trans.
