Hello All:

I have a 98, 5 speed Manual transmission explorer, w/ 130,000miles. The Haynes book says that it's not recommended to change the trans fluid, only check the level. Does anyone have exp. with this? How long until that fluid breaks down? Do I need to change?

I have read the same thing in the ford owners Manuel and I say Rubbish!!.

All fluid’s need to be changed sooner or latter. I don’t know how Ford came to the conclusion that the transmission never needs a fluid or filter change, must have been suggested by the same Engineer who came up with the chain tensioner design.

I would like to see a lab test done on transmission fluid that has done 200,000k’s I bet it would be well ####ed along with the transmission.

change it.
