Tranny gone?

Well it's slipping a tad, but the major thing I notice is that I live on a tad of a hil (maybe 5% grade). If I sit at the edge of the neighborhood waiting to pull into traffic and take my foot off the brake, the truck rolls backwards.. Now, while it's fun to make my truck look like a manual while I jut forward-roll back, jut-forward-roll back, I'm thinking this puppy may be on it's last leg. Is it normal for this tranny to do this? I assume not, but I came from a built-to-the-hilt 700R4 that was indestructable, so maybe this normal.

It's a 97 SOHC 5 Speed Auto w/ 102K

I bet if you dropped the pan you would find the valve body (also cover to low/reverse servo) bolts loose. If you have lived a very good life, tightening them to 9 ft-lb might solve your problems. Likely you have also lost engine braking going down a hill in manual 1. If that doesn't work you will need the valve body gaskets. Not that hard to do. Only get gaskets from the dealer. There is probably an updated seperator plate that is required with the gaskets. Anyone who doesn't tighten the bolts after 2 years is on borrowed time. I bought a tranny for parts w/52K and blown out gaskets. Other than that the tranny isn't bad. They are all dirty, must be those soft shifts.

Thanks opera I'll give it a try. The shifts are VERY VERY I repeat VERY soft..

What I mean is that the A4LD > 5R55E family seems to produce a lot of sediment in the pan vs some other transmissions. Probably because of the designed in soft shift. Don't be alarmed if sediment looks bad in the pan as long as there isn't any obvious metal. They seem to run that way.
