I'm new here so if I don't do this right I apologize. I have an automatic, 94 XLT, with a 4.0 and i need some help.
Ok, I towed my boat 400 miles and had tranny problems. While pulling the boat my tranny started slipping, and my temp gauge went way up. I pulled over and noticed tranny fluid trailing behind the truck. Long story short, I came back put 3 qts. of tranny fluid in and it drove right up on the trailer. I then changed tranny filter and refilled fluid and it has driven fine, for the most part. The temp gauge goes up about 3/4 of the way and drops back to normal, the heat won't work right when it does this. Also somtimes while driving 55-60 mph I hear a rumbleing sound when the tranny tries to shift. If anyone could help me or has any suggestions for me It would be highly appretiated.

First, I would try to find where the fluid was leaking. When you was under it did it look like it was coming from a seal, loose line,or maybe the pan?
Second I would check the cooling sysem.Check the clutch fan, radiator cap,and thermostat.Maybe flush the radiator.
It sounds like you have two problems.

rumble sound when shifting is never a normal noise, you might want to have that tranny gone over before it costs you big time. mine was making a rumble vibration just before it went out completely. after throwing lots of money at it, it works better than new.
