Tranny issues.

Hi All ,
Im looking for some interchange info on my 1991 ranger custom 2.3 liter 4wd
I blew something out the side of the tranny and am looking for a junk yard replacement. The salvage yard says that it only interchanges with other 2.3 liter rangers and mazda b-2300 but these are all but impossible to find. is there a difference between the 4 cyl tranny and the 6 cyl?? they look identical to me.

They will likely be the same tranny except for the bellhousing bolt pattern. If the bellhousing is removable, you should be able to swap the bellhousing from the old to the "new" tranny and be alright (might need to swap input shaft, too. I'm not sure). If the bellhousing isn't removable, then you'll have to keep looking.

Which tranny? A4LD automatic or M5OD manual?

I believe its the M5OD manual? Ill have to check if the bell housing is removable
