Trans or 5.0 pull?

About haf of the money I have in my 347 is the shortblock, the rest is the heads, valvetrain and camshaft. The cost is less than adding a supercharger of turbo, given a rebuilt engine. I would need a big pulley to run that, but that was the plan.

I love complications. I expected to replace a front seal on my transmission and I found that I buggered up the seal surface on my front pump. DOH! Ebay was my friend again. Have the replacement pump installed now along with a Baumann kit and hope to have mine back on the road in a week or so. I did also put a couple of Sonnax parts in there. The pressure valve and a TCC part. Had to call Baumann to clarify a couple of mods you make when putting the TCC part in. Didn't want to drill holes in the new part unless I had to. :)

Leaving the mount plates off the engine to get the trans and engine to line up helped. I just had to slightly move them a little and it went into place. A LOT easier pulling both at the same time though. There is a lot less room than I thought when just dropping the engine in if you try to drop it in level.

Seems like laying on the floor trying to get those accumulator valves installed was easier 10 years ago. :)

Oh also...I talked to ABC transmission and they gave me some advice and didn't try to talk me into a rebuild. They actually sounded like they didn't want to steal my money. Might just be a good shop.

Yes , they are pretty good at ABC, they have most trans parts you could need. Sorry to hear about the pump seal issue, I've just started on mine.

What are you doing to yours right now?

I've got the spare 99 trans to build, and I have my 93 gas tank here to figure out how to add the extra tank fittings of the 95-01's. My 4WD TC as been ready to go, I'm ready to have it all running again.

Well crap...1st I get in a wreck last week that totaled my Mustang and now the transmission is not working in the ST.

I had no major injuries, just some neck issues. The person who didn't see me wasn't hurt either. I hit his back door and rear quarter. If I would have hit the driver's door, things would be different.

Any suggestions on my trans problem? I need a car and I don't want to rush out to buy one right now. :(

Ouch, sorry to hear that. I hope it doesn't hurt too bad, you and the car.

Thanks. Well, if I don't get the ST fixed, I will be forced to buy another car. I only have the rental for a few more days! The Mustang is bye bye...

Had to get another transmission. So I did both. Engine pull, then after the trans wouldn't work, I had to pull the trans and replace it. Replacing the transmission was harder then pulling the engine. Had many problems getting it all lined up.

Transmission is in and it shifts and goes down the road. It makes some strange noises, even at idle though. Sounds almost like a rattle or pulley bearing type noise. It is not a constant noise and gets loud sometimes. I thought maybe something happened to an accessory on my engine, but using my stethoscope (matco prybar) it is coming from the transmission somewhere. I am sure it is the front pump or something...hell what luck. I didn't touch anything this time! I replaced the filter and fluid and didn't even pull the TC!! Fluid looked clean and the plastic thingy was still in the pan.

If I have to do this again... I will get a properly built 4r70w with shift kit installed and warranty and have the short block done, GT40 heads re-worked some, put in an HO cam and be done. I will pull both out at the same time and drop them both back in.

I would have done this in the first place if I would have known this was going to be a primary vehicle for me!

It's good that you have it running though. Try to think of other things and let the bad memories of the work go away. I've forgotten a lot of things that I've done before, even the good stuff. Regards,

Very true... It will all go away once I know what that noise I am hearing is now. It is amazing how I forget all the bad with all my old projects over the years. :)

It lives. The noise was the water pump. I pulled the serpentine belt and the noise went away. After further investigation, the water pump bearing was bad.

This thing needs a shift kit. I guess I will live with it the way it is for now. Not about to break another transmission. :)
