Trans Shifter for v8 swap

Swapped a 96 4r70w/aod-e from a explorer into my 94 ranger which originally had a A4LD. How can i shift this transmission. I know i need to wire up an OD off button. Can i use my stock colomn and make a bracket on the transmission if hold the cable in place. The cable fits on the end, just wonder about the shift pattern

You bolted a 4r70w up to a 4.0L?

I'd do what Jamie is doing and get a floor shifter. Search for the 410fortune 5.0 swap thread.

sorry, nah, i did the swap too. its bolted up to a 5.0 I know you can get a floor shifter, but id rather do it the creative (ok cheap) way and modify my stock column shifter if possible

Doh. I just read the title of this thread too.

The 4.0L tranny should have the same shift pattern as the 4r70w, right?

the A4LD had an OD position, the 4R70W uses a button for OD so you need to eliminate the OD position.

Joe Deitz modified his stock column shifter (93 Explorer 4 door) to match the new 4r70w shift pattern, as I said in my PM Ekerta82 he used a later model ranger column shift lever with the OD button in hte tip and welded it to his Explorer shift arm how he wanted it, then he modified the detents in the Column shifter to eliminate the 1 position, then re-painted the indicator on the instrument cluster to match the PNRD21 that the 4R70W uses. Came out trick and looks stock.
Later model trucks with an OD button, you could try grabbing the entire column shifter from one of those instead of going through all that....
