Trans wind & O/D Light Flashing?

Hi Gang...
I'm new to the group and was hoping someone might be able to help with something.
My uncle passed about 2 months ago, And he left me a 2001 ford explorer sport.I've never owned a ford, Or a 4 wheel drive vehicle before, So I don't know alot about them , Except that I love this thing...From It's look to It's ride,l It is an all around great truck!!.

About a week ago I was out for a ride when I had just left a green light and was excellerating when all of a sudden the trans wound out an extra 1000 rpms before the tranny clunked into 2nd gear rather hard, And the overdrive light on the dash started flashing as well.I thought it was a fluke, so I turned off the truck and started over.The light stopped flashing and did work properly when i hit the o/d button on and off manually.
Once again the trans clunked into 2nd and the light went to flashing again.Was wondering if anyone else has had any problems like this as well.I dont want to spend a fortune at a dealership If it's something simple to fix.

well if it is a 2001 you could take it to the dealer and have them fix it for free if it is inder warranty but it sounds like something is internally wrong with your transmission but try resetting the computer by disconnecting the negitive termanal on the battery for 15 min

check the Transmission fluid, maybe its low

i am not sure but i think that the 2001 and up model trannies are sealed for life

anybody else heard about this sealed for life thing on the 2001+? It is about time to do it on my mothers 2001 and I don't want to do something I shouldn't.
