O/D light flashing

i have a 95 explorer and my o/d flashes once in awhile. but when it does flash it shifts harder when going up in the gears but when it downshifts from second to first it bangs the sound it makes almost is like a bad u joint but its not cause it only does it while the light is flashing...?

Welcome to this forum! Don't drive with a flashing overdrive light. It's going into limp (FMEM) mode, and could cause internal transmission damage due to higher than normal hydraulic pressure. Find out what the code numbers are.

its really not shifting that hard but i dont know what it is other then the way it downshifts it works great with 198k on it
