n researching this forum I think I have a bad TF case due to a clunking noise in the 40-60 mph range (which I saw in a transfer case post) was the start of the transfer case failure. ANyway, for a 98 4 door explorer V6 SOHC automatic, I didn't see a model # on my transfer case. I see its a BG and AZ19D is on it but is there multiple types for my type of explorer or is it a 4450 as I saw some where posted.

By the way where can you get a rebuilt trnasfer case?

It's a Borg-Warner 44-05 transfer case. They're not cheap... figure a grand for a rebuilt one plus installation.

Any one from a 98-01 will work in yours if you look for a used one.

Good luck!

What about a 1997 V6 SOHC VIN# F

This thread is from 2008

I have like 5 of these transfer cases at any given time hardly ever do they get used
The 97 version is a little tricky because it has a speed sensor in the tailhousing

You can actually fix your 97 case by swapping your rear case into a good donor case from another rig like a 98-04
I have done this countless times
