Transfer case hose?

Hey everyone. I found this hose in my driveway a few days ago that fell off my Tranfer case, It has a plug in one end of it and I don't know what the hose is for. My Dad says its just a breather hose for the T case and the plug is suppost to be there, but that doesn't seem right.Also I don't see were the hose re-attaches and I know the hose belongs to the T case cause I've noticed it hanging down before. Can someone help me out? Thanks for the help.

Most transfer cases have breather hoses, usually towards the top of the case, the plug is a one way check valve, it's supposed tokeep water out, but if you go through deep water, it's best to change the oil in your t case.
