I had my car in for an oil change and the person pointed out that I may have a transfer case issue. He wasnt sure but that was his first guess without looking into it and Sears isnt a transmission place anyway.

It almost sounds like the sound of light marbles being rolled in a can.

I dont feel any change of power, shifting or any thing else abnormal, just the sound.

Any insight? I will probably bring it to AAMCO for proper diagnostics.

Could be anything but sometimes its a stretched chain in the transfer case thats rubbing up against something (the casing for example).

X 2 Sounds like slack in the chain.

this sounds to me like the timing chain on a 4.0 L SOHC. but thats my assuption. theres many threads about it with the marble sound as a description. hopefully its not for ur sake, but how many miles do u have on your truck? if its between 75000 - 135000 theres a good chance this is it. if it was the t case then it would probably make a loud ratching sound, and eventually you will lose reverese, then park. id say first thing first is you check out the timing chain issues in the other buliteens

Seeing as how you have a 5.0L engine, what trans and transfercase do you have. Have you checked the oil level and for possible metal filings in the TC and trans? Seek out an ATRA certified trans shop first.
