I have an issue with my 99 explorer, I purchased the truck with a little over 60K on it, and even then it had a slight vibration when accelerating that I alwayse thought was a "dry" u-joint. Well now it has over 140K on it and this past summer I replaced the motor with a 05 ranger unit. Now here's where things got wierd. That vibration has been getting slightly worse and I eventually replaced the u-joints and it made no difference. I also replaced the rear diff due to a pinion seal leak that caused a bad bearing. So my next step was a salvage yard rear driveshaft. That didn't help. After I replaced the motor I had the front driveshaft out and I noticed that the vibration was gone. I ended up driving the truck this way till the snow started to fall, and I wanted to use the 4 wheel drive and as soon as I drove the truck with the front driveshaft back in, the vibration was back. Now after driving the truck this winter, the vibration is much worse, actually feels like it's intermittedly binding(truck has a eratic jerking sensation) under anything over a moderate acceleration. This makes me think the transfer case is the issue. Anyone have any thoughts or experienced this?
LOL I know its a long post so I'll summarize:
Trucks vibrates/shudders on acceleration
replaced rear ujoints then driveshaft
replaced rear axle
removed front driveshaft and vibration disappears
replaced front driveshaft and vibration reappears
accelerate in 4wd hight vibration is gone.
