Transfer Case Motor Question, Images

I looked in the 4x4 forum but couldn't find what I need to know. I bought a new transfer case motor from Rockauto.com and I'm not sure if it will work with my transfer case.

This is the old one:

You can't see the gray wire attached to it that you must cut to take it off, but its on there.

This is the new one:

You can see that it doesn't have the part that has the blue and green wires attached to it. This part inserts into a small hole on the transfer case itself. It also doesn't have a wire for the gray wire that comes out of the transfer case to be attatched too.

What I need to know is, will this part work?

Hi:

For your information on the old shift motor, the part that has "the blue and green wires" is the speed sensor and you can remove it without cutting and wires. Look inside the main connector and you will see a red ring. Using a fine hook you can pull the red ring out and the wire (and all the other wire connectors) to the speed sensor can be removed. When you are ready just put the red ring back in the connector to secure the wires.

As for the new shift motor I believe it is for the older (91-92) x and they did not have the speed sensor. If I am wrong someone else here will correct me.

Is the speed sensor necessary for the operation of the shift motor and transfer case? When I took the shift motor off the first time I put the transfer case into 4 wheel manually with a pair of pliers, and with the speed sensor removed, transmission fluid ran out of the hole it goes in. Can I plug the whole and have to new shift motor operate properly? Also, the gray wire that is hard-lined to the old shift motor from the transfer case isn't on the new shift motor. I assume this wire is some sort of ground wire, is it necessary?

Hi:

Somehow I missed that question back in Feb. Although I do not have a definitive answer I believe that the sensor can be bypassed.

The 4 x 4 Lo will not engage if speed is sensed. That is you must be at a stop or virtual stop before Lo can be engaged. If you disconnect the speed sensor then the controller should think you are always stopped. If this is the case then you can bypass the sensor , but remember there is a reason for forcing you to stop before you engage 4 x 4 Lo and you can do serious damage to things otherwise.
