Hi all,
just changed the transfer case oil on 97 ltd sohc auto.
All went well but when checking the universal joints on the drive shafts i noticed movement on the rear shaft where it goes into the transfer case.
This is not the universal joint as it is good.
There is no oil leak at the rear seal.

Is this normal !
Any help appreciated.
Thanks, andy.

If the shaft has movement, and the U-joint is fine that is not normal. Sounds like an output bearing is worn, but it should be making some knid of noise...

Thanks bluestream.
When i drive there is a very faint squeeking noise [ like a rubber squeek] i notice it when driving slow with windows down or coasting slowly.
Appart from this there is no noise that i notice, andy.

A worn bearing will usually give a groaning or whinning noise. A worn U-joint will squeek. Also, if there is play in the output shaft, you may get a vibration from the dive shaft as if it was out of balance

Thanks for the info bluestream.
I will remove the drive shafts and give them a better inspection.

I have not noticed any vibration, even at 70mph it is smooth.

Thanks, andy.
