Does it clunk at all or make any sounds when you switch it to 4wd? I'd do a search for "how to clean shift motor" How did you check the dial switch?

no noise at all nothing, lights do not even come on. all I did to check the switch was to try a new one in its place. No change so Iinstalled the old one and returned the new one.
