Just out of curiosity what sort of price would I be looking at for a transmission fluid change? I am unsure if I should replace the filter or not and weather I should drain the whole transmission or just empty the pan?
Any advice/ experience is welcome!!

My advice would be drop the pan, new filter, check torque on valve body bolts, fresh mercon V fluid (comma multivehicle works) and finally band adjustment (search on this one for method and torque - plenty of info in the transmission section).
Do all this and you will notice a big change in the shifting esp if you get the band adjustment right.

HOWEVER.... Lots of debate on the whole changing fluid on high miler boxes that may have worn plates, with slipping occurring with the fresh fluid. My take is that if it slips after a fluid change then the plates are shot anyway and it was only a matter of time before it would slip and burn. With doing a pan drop you will still have some of the old fluid left in the torque converter. I believe I only used 5-6L fresh stuff when I did mine.
