I'm rebuilding an auto box [5R55E] from a low milage one, and one I had from forum member Jan.

The Ford handbook states WS9 M2C 202-B which I always presumed was MERCON V.

I have been using Comma AQ202. After ringing Comma, they say this ISNT a Mercon V equivalent and I should be using their Multi vehicle ATF.[ Jan confirmed this when I saw him. He showed me a bottle of Comma Multi vehicle that said Mercon V on it]

So the question is this;

Do our transmissions need a Mercon V or 202 spec oil?

Thanks for pointing this out to me Jan.

What do other members use?

Kev.

iv used mercon v, bought 12 bottles for 105 quid from a company called anglo american oil based here in cornwall

I'm sure that I've seen Mercon V on the dipstick, if not then that is what is recommended in the handbook.

Managed to get my local supplier down to £44.90 for 10 litres.

out of interest how much oil do these take as the book say 5 liters?thanks

They take 9.25 litres from dry.

Hey Borys
There are pros and cons with a change of fluid. If your fluid is looking a bit dark then personally i would do it. Also a new filter may help with the pressures in the box. If your box has stupid miles on it then fresh fluid can cause it to slip all dependent on the state of the clutch pack. I can't talk from personal experience but i read a ton of threads about these trans when i thought i had bust mine.
You can get a filter from USAutomotive (they have a site and ebay shop) for about £25. No clue for a dealer Motorcraft.
