OK, yes, I searched and read a bunch of transmission threads, but none of the ones I read covered my issue, so here goes..
Vehicle: 2002 Explorer, 4.6L 4x4, just under 90,000 miles.
So it was my mothers car before it was mine, the transmission was rebuilt at around 60k, and I took the vehicle over at about 75k. I noticed the issues from day one, but my mother said it was fine, I don't think it is. I have two issues.
1.) When cold, it hangs in first gear, regardless of how hard I'm pushing the pedal, until 4k rpms. once the vehicle warms up, it stops doing that.
2.) When the transmission shifts off-throttle (like I release the gas pedal, and it shifts) it hits the next gear hard. If i keep my foot on the gas it shifts smooth.
3.) Slow to down shift; I put the pedal to the floor, it thinks for a few seconds, then shifts down, I can get almost to a three count (one one thousand, two two thousand three thre-shift)
OK, I come from manual transmission world, are these items normal? they really don't feel normal to me, but I don't have anything to compare it to as my mom now has a newer V6 explorere with the 6speed auto that shifts like lightning, and my dad has an F-350 with a V10, which is completely different (although smoother than the explorer for some reason).
If they arent normal, what could the issue be? I mean if it's a real thing, then I'm probably bringing it to AAMCO where she got it rebuilt and making them fix it, but I'd like to have some kind of understanding as to what the issue is caused by.
I have checked the fluid level and its fine, the fluid doesnt appear to be scortched, I am aware it needs a fluid & filter change soon, but like I said the issues have been there since I started driving it.
I appreciate any input
