I've been reading and reading posts, so forgive me if this issue was somewhere and I didn't see it.
I have a 1998 EB Ford Explorer. V8 automatic. The other day coming home I stopped at a stop sign, but when I went to go forward, it hesitated to move, but finally did and I made it home, the entire 8 miles. The next evening I drove it into town to the gas station, (it drove fine) but when I went to back up, it did, but trying to go forward in drive it wouldn't move, either direction now. So I had to be pushed out of the way and towed home. It has sat in my driveway for 8 days without touching it, then yesterday I started it up, checked the tranny fluid and it was okay, then I proceeded to get inside and see if it would move. It did move, I got to turn it around facing my house, but when I went to go further, it wouldn't move in drive or reverse, there it sits in he middle of the driveway. I know I need to take it in to Kent City Ford, but I'm a little hesitant, because I don't want to have to replace the entire transmission. Has anyone else had a problem like this and it was an easy fix?
Both of my mechanics are in heaven, I'm a widow now and can't afford to pay an arm and leg for this. Please help with suggestions.

Unfortunately if it's full of fluid and quits pulling in either direction it will have a internal failure that will require the transmission to be rebuilt. I would check around for a shop other than the dealer that can handle a transmission repair. It will probably cost you around 2 to $2800 depending on the shop and their warranty to get this repaired properly.

If it is 2 wheel drive a used junk yard unit out of a V6 mustang 98-01 or so would be an alternative to having your transmission rebuilt. Most yards offer a decent warranty on the parts.

Thanks

:)But today I went out and started it, put it in drive and it drove just fine in drive up to the house. I didn't go any further as I wasn't sure if it would keep going in drive. I'm not sure what is going on with this, strange.

It's an all wheel drive V8
