transmission problems

I put in a use transmission 2 months ago I stopped at a stop started driving away and the engine died I started it back up and put it in gear it tries to go in gear but won't when its in any gear but park it will roll forwards but not back what do you think the problem is

It sounds like the shift cable needs to be adjusted.

That is one fine list of handy links! (#89 is dead) I particularly enjoyed the oven ignitor group, I *almost* can't wait for my current one to burn out. The bottom just comes right out. Man. Thanks!
