Well, I've got Headers, Exhaust, K&N, and soon to have Hypertech chip, also have AC unplugged if that even matters, and now a friend is saying I need to worry about the tranny. He says one day when I slam on the gas, I won't be moving. He suggests a kit like Shiftplus. Do they have these for non-electronic transmissions? Mine's the kind with the cable, not electronically controlled. What would the Shiftplus kit connect to? Does it replace the tube from the pedal to the tb? He also says a torque converter would be something to consider later on. Does this sound about right? The Shiftplus kits aren't expensive and are supposedly easy to install. Thanks!

The shiftplus by itself will most likely not significantly prolong the life of your tranny, though it will make shifts noticably firmer and it may help. They have one for the vacuum controlled A4LD.

The best things to do for your tranny are to make sure you have an aux tranny cooler and maintain it well. As for the torque converter, from my experience it's better to stay with a Ford unit. Most likely your converter will go out before the tranny does, at that time you replace it and rebuild the tranny as needed.

Ok. Well I've only got 85k miles right now, but he says the tranny is something to worry about when I really get on the gas.

Really the tranny is something to worry about period. Regular by-the-book maintenance, a tranny cooler, and an external filter are your best bets for long tranny life.
