OK so my sensor is corroded and very dirty, still having shift problems, Tried re-aligning it no such luck. Got a used one on Ebay, now mine has a 8 pin connector and the new/used one I got has 12. I know im supposed to have the 4r55e, and this sensor was for that.

Can someone put a light on the subject?

thanks in advance

Josh

13 people have looked and know body has a clue?

My sensor has a oval type connector, and the new switch I got has a squarish type with the added 4 pins.

My DPFE sensor was the same way, I had to splice a new socket on for it to work with the new sensor.

Any help will be great

thanks BB

Just for anyone elses knowledge if they run into this problem, The sensor is 8 pin 95/96 and the 12 pin is for the 97+

thanks

I have a 95 Ford Explorer XLT 4.0 Liter... I am having issues with the O/D light on my dash...flashes on and off and SUV surges, then stops. I had the transmission ranger sensor replaced or neutral safety switch... not sure of the exact name. Recently the car wouldn't start, had to replace the fuel pump. It ran fine for a few weeks, now the O/D is flashing on again (not all the time) but when it does, the car surges and slows down. I know that it is some sensor that tells the transmission to shift. I've also been told about the inertia switch (shutting off the fuel line)...I just feel like this car is turning into the money pit and I am sick of bringing it to mechanics that "try and soak me" on expensive repairs.. any suggestions? Thank you..

When the OD light flashes a code is stored in the computer, turning the engine off resets the computer but doesn't remove the stored code. as soon as the computer sees the trans fault again, it flashes the OD light again while driving, when it is flashing the computer puts the engine and trans in limp mode so that further damage won't occur till repair is done. Get the code read to see what is wrong.

Forgot to add, the "check engine" light has been on constantly for roughly 3 weeks. (I know, I should have had it looked at, but $$$ ) when they put the tester under the steering wheel, there is a "fault" that won't allow the machine to pull a code. There is power though to the tester. Maybe a lose wire? Also, I do know the code is still stored even if the check engine light is off(thank you). So, the first thing is to fix the issue with the tester to read codes, then go from there. Any other info is much appreciated.
Thank You

I am still having engine light and O/D issues. I have been told that I should get the PCM replaced to read the codes and then go from there. The other code reader that goes under the hood works but the guy says "it reads data and such" the one under the steering wheel reads the actual codes and things wrong with the Explorer. These PCM's can be pricey as I could have it "flashed with upgraded software" or by a re-manufactured one with my vin # and mileage on it. Not sure to go to have it flashed, a junk yard or a website to see about buying one...any suggestions?

You need to get the engine codes read and fix those problems first, as the computer uses some engine functions to control the transmission. Just replacing the PCM may not fix anything. There is a code that says the PCM is bad or if it can't be accessed by a good code reader then it is bad.
