Hey all I have a 03 Lincoln Aviator, same idea as the Explorer/Mountaineer. Anyways are the Ex/MT transmissions sealed at the factory without a dipstick? That is how it is on the Lincoln and I would like to find a way to fix this problem. I don't like it... LOL

Thanks!

yes from model year 2002 up

...and do yourself a favor. If you've never had the transmission flushed before...don't start.

I had the service manager at the dealership recommend that I have mined flushed close to 100,000 miles and when the technician came out to see me in the waiting room he asked "did this thing ever slip before?" I told hime no...never. He said "it will now". Boy that certainly would have been something to have known BEFORE they began to flush it because 2 weeks later it began to slip just like they said it would...

Yep. That's been my experience with EVERY high-mileage tranny.

Lots of guys on this board claim that a flush won't hurt it and that the old tranny just happens to fail right after the flush. LOL.

Not sure it is really "sealed" but they did make it a PITA, this thread should help.

Like others have said I would not get it "flushed" but dropping the pan changing the filter and the 4-6 quarts that come out might be a good idea.
