transmission swap

would a transmission form a 2002 or newer work properly in my 07? as in electronics etc? mine has gone out completely and I can get my hands on one out of a 2004.what is the difference if any? both are 4wd and both have the 4.0 thanks again

You may get lucky and find one with the same OD gear ratio. If not the computer wont be happy. Maybe some one else will have a more definite answer as I am just not that familiar with year changes.

how would I go about finding the od gear ratio for the explorer? hopefully someone will chime in and let me know for sure. was told by someone that it wouldn't work due to the older transmissions not having the same electronics ??? but im unsure and searching up they are all interchangeable need help

The thing to find out is, if you are going ahead with this swap, will the PCM throw the vehicle into limp mode, if driven with improper OD gear ratio in it?

If not, at worst, it will flash O/D OFF light continually. Can you live with that? The Ford Tech on here can probably answer this, if he's looking. imp
