Transmission Trouble (no 1st)

Today i got stuck in the mud and now i have a problem with my transmission. I have a 1994 explorer with auto transmission. The problem is i have no first gear. I have to put the tranny in 2nd an get goin up to about ten miles an hour, the i can shift into drive. it will shift fine then bill will neve go down to first. I can make a complete stop , but when i start tranny will be in 2nd. When i do put in in 1 it is just like nuetral. please help, I'm supposed to go on a trip next week.

Do you have reverse? First is the low/reverse servo band. Reverse is the low/reverse band and the high clutch. Since you didn't mention that, it sounds like the rear one way clutch. This only operates in first gear and is way in back. Everything has to come out to get to this.
