What can I do to a stock 4R70W so it'll handle 400 HP and 500 ft-lbs of torque and towing. I'd also like quicker and firmer shifts (Do a J-mod?).

I guess technically the stock transmission can handle that kind of power, but will it be reliable?

I'm planning on doing the work myself. I've never rebuilt an automatic but I did open up my 4R70W's valve body to replace a bad 2-1 accumulator. I don't think it'll be anything I can't handle.

An sct programmer, and some tuning will firm up the shifts. You won't even need to go in. To the trans.

Vroomzoomboom has a shift kit, and the shifts are....umm....I would say...aggressive. The tires bark going from 1st to 2nd under normal driving conditions

Oh, interesting, I thought most of the shifting was done hydraulically with the 4R70W since it's the W instead of E.

What kind of programmer would you recommend?

The Vroomzoomboom sounds much to aggressive for my taste. This is my daily driver an tow vehicle after all. :D

I do want something firmer though. The current shifts at full throttle make give me the same feeling finger nails on a chalk board do... adding a trailer and listing it to shift under full throttle is even worse..

James at Hensonperformance tunes the transmits on also when he does engine tuning. One thing he does via the computer is increase line pressure in the trans.
