Treadlife Warranty Worth It?

I'm finally purchasing a new set of tires for the X.

I'm looking for something good on road, especially in winter snow and ice, but is also fully capable on moderate off-road excursions, I mean come on it is Utah, we have it all here......

My main question is this, are the tread life warranty's worth picking a tire with a warranty verses one without.

Tire's I’m considering so far.

General Grabber AT 2 (60,000 Mile Warranty)
BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO (No Warranty)
Pro Comp All Terrain (50,000 Mile Warranty + added benifit of severe weather rating)

get tires through america's/discount tire company... they have prorata warranties in addition to road hazard. and usually they will price match, my local place jsut took really good care of me

The Discount Tire near me won't install anthing outside of the OEM tire sizes. I'm looking to step up to 31's or 32's, sorry probably should have mentioned that in my post.

look for another one.... most places wont... mine are way cool though.... i have worked for both america's tire company and a place we have here in CA called wheel works, neither have had problems with me installing a larger than stock size

I had the same problem with my Discount Tire. They said they could not put them on my car. I got them to just mount the tires on the rims. I loaded them in the back of my truck and put them on my car in my driveway.

Check other tire shops in your area, the place around here that normally does Rig tires did mine for me.

Its been a while sine I had to do it but when a Discount Tire store told me they would only install OEM sized tires on my lifted explorer I called the Discount Tire Corporate office.

I asked them what is the company position on installing tires. He said that as long as it fit safely that they would install it. He called the store and I was able to get my tires installed. Never had a problem with that store again.

When I called Coorporate I told them I wanted to know what the company policy on installing tires since a local store refused to sell/install me a set of tires (in my case it was the same size I already had)..

Hopefully they haven't changed their official position (its been a few years since I called).

So what is the "prorata warranties?" was that supposed to be prorated? If so what exactly does that cover?

I've used Discount Tires for every vehical I've owned to date including the current tires on the X. I'm actually thinking of using my local 4 Wheel Parts for the install. Not only will they install anything I want but their road hazard coverage is no questions asked. I ran into problems when I took a tire with a damaged side wall to Discount for replacement under the road hazard protection, I hit a pot hole that I couldn't see in the snow, but the manager there gave me the 3rd degree about it looking like off-road damage and didn't want to cover it. They finally gave in but not until I made a scene in the waiting area and was calling the corp # from my cell. After that I decided to try somewhere else.

Just go to the 4WP store then and save yourself some hassle. I wish there was one closer to me.

That raises my original question. Is it worth it to pick a tire with a tread life warranty over a tire without it. I was hopeing not to get into the battle of the brands but, this mainly comes down to a decision between the BFG AT and the ProComp AT.

I like both and have heard both good and bad about both. The only differance for me is that the ProComp has the warranty and the Severe Weather rating. The BFG seems to be a sturdier tire off-road and still has the M+S rating.
