I headed up to meet my old gang from Wisconsin and buddies from Colorado for a week of cooler temp wheeling, much to my suprise it was nearly triple digits there.

It's a nice trail with plenty of aggressive spots all the way through it but an access road that parallel's the entire trail. It's also real easy to find, North of I-70 about 8-10 miles just west of the 22 Rd exit from the interstate.

Friday night we started up this trail and then headed back to camp to return the next day. It wasn't long that my truck decided she wanted to go home with some body damage. I managed to crumple the front fender and door together coming off of a nicely shaped rock, and then shortly after slipped into a section of two tall boulders, one sacraficing my drivers rear window and quarter panel. The next day went a bit smoother, a few times we had near roll overs and got the winches out along with a nice long day of wheelin.

As usual the photos never do too much justice.

no that wasn't a rollover, thats the way the rocks push you going up this obstacle and from the top it appears his jeep is standing on the rear door.

Great pics! Great trail, way outa my trucks league. Grand Junction is not the place to go to cool off. Any more pics? :chug:

Yeah, there's more pics, I'll toss a few up of Scott's CJ7, that rig is in showroom shape and he wheel's it hard.

that thing remains spoltess even though I've seen it deep in mud, it gets cleaned before Scott can go to bed.

WOW that looks like fun, but I don't know if my explorer could handle it.

there is a lot of trails that are much more scenic that I'd recommend, such as Holy Cross that we ran that Monday, but this one was hard core in spots with some easier lines around them. I didn't drive 10 hrs to take easy lines though!!!

Oh wait a darn moment..

People who MOVE to arizona don't wheel anymore.

What have you done with the Real Dannyboy? He doesn't show up to the Explorer gatherings.. :D

LOL, Tom my truck was down for a while getting the solid axle and then it seemed like I had to work a big boat show every time there was a group run. I sadly missed Truckhaven, AZ run & MOAB because of personal time getting in the way.

It's running like a top now, even staying really cool, only problem was I managed to leak a little tranny fluid when I got really twisted up at an angle. I have no idea what to do about that.

You need to:

a) when the first hint of the thaven thread(s) starts - post away what your schedule is!

b) find the vent on the transmission, and replace it with a hose run up higher.

Nice pics! Tough trail! So what would you say would be the min. size tires for that trail?

Great pics :D Looks like we both had our share of boulders last weekend!!

I want to get a night run together here soon. We'll get Michael and anyone else who wants to go up to Table Mesa and run Raw Deal. The night time temps are pretty reasonable up there.

Yeah and my truck has been running nice and cool with the new clutch fan Rick. I called and talked to someone at your house and heard you were out of town. I'm still looking for a replacement back window, just haven't had time to get to the junkyard yet but I tried that Driven Auto place you told me about.

Hmm, min tire size on that could be done with some 33s on an Explorer I'd say. I'd say you would need rocker protection the most of anything. I crunched my front door getting a little too ****y on a big rock.

I've got all three back windows available... Which one do you need?

Dannyboy nice pics :) I have got to run that trail a few times this year and if I would have known there was going to be another X from this board going on that trip I would have tagged along. I saw wally posting that trip on CO4x4 but I went wheeling in the high country to cool off instead ;)

That sucks, I didn't really know where we were going to be so I didn't post up on here. We were going to run Carnage Canyon in Buena Vista, but opted to get into the mountains instead. We had a nice trip, got to run Holy Cross too, that trail has gotten a bit tougher in the past two years.
