I Recently Changed My Tranny Oil and Diff Oil this weekend. And now My Explorer wont go into Drive Sometimes Or Wont accelerate when its on drive. Is My Tranny Messing Up? it never used to do this before.

did you use the right transmission fluid i believe its mercon 5. for the 4.0 engine

Did you check the fill level with the engine running and the trans in park?
Did you change the trans filter and make sure the O-rings were in place?

i used Castro Mercon V and i changed the oil filter and put the o rings on. When i went to auto zone the guy told me i only needed 3 bottles of the Mercon V since i was just replacing the tranny filter

ok if you just changed the filter 3 quarts is about right. if you did indeed do a thorough oil change (meaning replacing all the fluid with new you would need about 12 quarts. did you run the vehicle at all with the pan off? if all was fine before the change.simply changing the filter and replacing the lost fluid should not cause your symptoms. unless something was lost or left out in the process. not trying to treat you like a dummy just dont your level of mechanical experience. and want to try and help figure it out. did you perhaps have to take any lines loose if so are they tight.

when you had the pan off did you disturb the electrical connections at the solenoids?
did you mess with the valve body AT ALL?

When you put the filter back on did you torque the bolt correctly? its only like 7-9ft lbs which is about as tight as you can get with a small nut driver.

i didnt mess around with anything i just took the pan and filter off cleaned off the pan put in the new filter tighten it. Could it be that its missing oil because i had it on jackstands and maybe more oil drained?

Triple ck the fluid level.

when i did my filter change i had to put in over 4 quarts. After you've driven it and its warm, and the truck still running, then check the fluid level, see where youre at. Don't go by the first pull of the dipstick either. Pull out, wipe and then chekc it, and look on both sides of the stick when u pull it back out, may be easier to see the level. Let us know how you make out either way.

I used over 4 quarts also for a filter change.

well i went back to auto zone and the one of the reps recommended that instead of oil i put a additive. So he recommended Lucas Transmission Additive. he told me to pour the whole bottle in and now it seems to work fine theirs time were it still slips and wont go into drive but its rare now and sometimes it feels like it takes time to shift
