Think i posted this in the wrong place earlier....

On saturday I installed my spankin' new KKM kit into my 93 explorer xlt.

So, saturday it runs great, definite improvement in power, it's obviously breathing way better.

Sunday it seemed fine.

Monday morning, the 'Check Engine' light is coming on intermittently...
There appears to be some hesitation when that light is on.

Also, when at idle (and the check engine light is on) the idle seems a little rough ... nothing real bad, but a little rough.

First thing i thought of was the MAF being damaged... or dirty filaments in there... the only thing is, when i did the work, i never opened said MAF, never dropped it.

I guess what i dont understand is; why now? if it's MAF / KKM related, shouldn't that have shown up right away?

So uhm... what should i try first? ;)

Also, what was the now-removed Heat-Riser Assembly for?
Could it be that the plug inserted into the vacuum line isnt doing it's job? should i try putting some sealant around it?

Thanks for any input you can provide!

Did you oil the KKM? If so , you could have easily gotten some oil on the MAF sensors, try removing the maf sensor and use some electrical contact cleaner to clean it and let it dry..

no sir. I read that the KKM comes pre-oiled etc.

It may not be anything related to the intake. Don't forget this is a 13 year old truck.

get the codes read for free at autozone or similar parts store that does free readings. Get the codes and report back here. It could be something totally unrelated to the new KKM.

yeah, i considered that AJR2000.... definately could be something else.
I didnt notice any poor running, hesitation, or anything immediately after installation of the KKM.

Can either of you enlighten me on why/how the truck is supposed to run correctly with a vacuum line plugged, and one removed?
What did the old line do that ran from the airbox to the hot air riser assembly/air intake, anyhow?

hrm. I dont know of any stores locally that do free code readings. that would be sweet!

Anyone in canada know of stores that offer this?

yikes. $81 for a check engine code check at the local canadian-tire shop :o

ok, down to $51 minmum up to $74 at the local Certigard....
*wishing for an autozone here in Victoria, BC*

search the board here. there is a way to check codes yourself by counting blinks of the CEL. You can also get a cheap scan tool for OBD 1 of ebay. Search around here and you should be able to find some stuff.

i dont think the CEL blinked at all, snocross.
I'll have a look, see what i can find online here.

The cel won't blink when it is on, however I believe it is similiar to the old blazer I had and you can hook up some jumper wires to get the code to blink through the CEL.

That is what i was referring to, just didn't come out that way.

Did you plug the vaccum lines? Or did you not plug the lines. On some 1st gens if the lines are not plugged it will give a code & not run right. However on some others it will do the same if the lines are plugged. Try messing with them.

Buy a code reader on eBay or the like. The ones for the early Explorers are cheap. I paid just over $100 for an Actron scanner for my '99 and '00 Explorers (OBDII). Well worth it and has paid for itself long ago.
