sounds like he was really beatin it up while he was driving

Speaking of car theft I was at a red light when a P.O.S Hyundai Pony drives up to me. Thing looked like it was just fished out of a pond. Anyways guy starts screaming at me loud and I roll down my window. He says that he just aquired the car and hes willing to part with it for 50 bucks... I just laughed and said "you stole it didn't you" he responds by going "hey its surrey" and drives off during the red light. Would have called the cops but my cell was at Gf's house.

I'm going to buy a real good alarm system ASAP.

A friend of mine had his car stolen in Illinois years ago. He had left his keys in the car and some kids took it for a joy ride.

Guess what... My friend got busted for contributing to the delinquencey of a minor because he left his keys in his car and gave them the opportunity to take the car without having to hot wire it.

I have also heard that insurance companies don't like to pay off on cars that were recovered and had no signs of damage to the steering column and were obviously started with a key.

Moral is... make sure your keys stay with you, and don't stay in the car.

Daaaaamn. I always leave mine in the center console (and lock the truck behind me) when I go out on the river or somewhere where I could lose them. Maybe I should stop doing that.. or hide them in there somewhere.

Well at least you got it back fast, and there wasn't time to chop crap up or drive it through the woods or something.

We had a guy up here that had his CJ stolen from in front of his house and it had no engine in it. Supposedly someone saw it being trailered off. It was found 3 weeks later 80 miles away at a shop. Just about everything of value was gone and some crappy tires were put on it. Everyone got real nervous when 4 4x4 were stolen over a period of 3 weeks.

When some new guy showed up on the board selling all sorts of stuff evryone assumed this was the A-hole that stripped the 4x4's down. Turned out not to be the case but they dropped a dime on him and caused him a lot of trouble. Worst thing is they felt they were justified cause he was new and not a part of the 4x4 community. I don't really recall any apologies over that incident.

Yeah I hope to fix what is wrong and the stereo equipment can be replaced, but he didnt drive it long and there looks to be no physical damage to the truck so i lucked out, but the nightmare of worrying is finally over, thank god

I'm glad you got you truck back in one piece. It really sucks about doubt being thrown in you friendship but I still think your boy has a lot of explaining to do. Are the police interviewing him? He was atleast a witness and should have to answer to the cops. Good luck, Bro

Yep, never leave your key(s) in the car. My insurance company states right on my policy, that is my vehicle is stolen and I have left the keys in the car, they will NOT pay off.

My brother lives in a very small town, and the whole town leaves there keys in their ignition all of the time and he does too. Not me, when ever I go up there, I always lock and set my alarm. He laughs at me for dong this, but one day I will have the last laugh when his vehicles gets stolen!

Glad to hear you got it back;)

It sounds like they just went for a joy ride. It could've been a lot worse that's for sure. I'm glad your worries are over.

More reasons to stay away from that place! All I ever hear is bad stories....

keys returned?

Were the keys returned when the car was recovered? If not, you better get the locks and ignition changed. Don't want to restock your cds and stereo only for this a-hole to come along and let himself right in.

In fact, even if the keys were returned, they could have been copied, so it might be a good idea to change at least the lock regardless.

I had a key-related scare when my stereo was stolen while my car was in my driveway. I had a set that had keys for my other cars (not the one being burglarized though) AND my house in the glovebox. The keys weren't taken, but it gave me a scare. I would have had to change locks on 3 cars and my house! Now, I keep the spare set in the house (convenience be damned!)

I remember you talking about some place near where you live where you found lots of 4x4 stuff for sale.
This was a few months back...
Maybe some of it was hot??? From that crime spree??

that really sucks dude, hope you get it back soon. If they tried to steal mine, i dont think they would get very far. If it was sunny it would just stall, if it was rainy they wouldnt be able to see!! lol.
