What causes most FORD EXPLORERS to lean or sag on the drivers side of the vehicle? I've noticed a few Explorers running around town that has the same problem as I do. How do I get rid of this problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanx.

THe gas tank is on the driver's side, a full tank makes mine lean a little bit. Measure your fender/ground clearance on the front, one of your torsion bars may be sagging, there's a couple of sets of instructions on how to adjust these (that is, if you have a 95 or newer), Also, your leafs may have fatigued out on one side. They don't seem to make em like they used to anymore.

I would consider the suggestion above. My 99 sagged 7/8" in the left rear and I took it to the dealership the next month to get it corrected. They initially told me they replaced a weak leaf but I have since found out that they cranked my right front torsion down about 1/4" (unnoticable). It took about 50 miles for the suspension to reset but that 1/4" drop in the right front evened out that sag.

For me that doesn't matter now since I re-cranked the torsion bars up and am installing different shackles to get a 1" lift front and rear on my 99, but that little trick of barely lowering your right front might do enough to make you satisfied with how your rear looks.

Hope this helps.

Hey, Thanks for posting that message. I have a '96 XLT V8 AWD and it's been leaning toward the driver's side also. I thought maybe something was really wrong with it. I'll try some of the mentioned remedies...

Thanks.

So its either in my front torsion being fatigued or a bad leaf, huh? Hmmmmm... my Exploder is a '91 and maybe it could be in the leaf but the front torsion? I'll see what I come up with when I lift the darn thing. I just don't like that lean. Thanx guys!!!

Ooops.... didn't know you had a '91. Yeah, it's gonna be pretty tough trying to adjust your torsion bars.....

the reason GJ said it would be hard to adjust your torsion bar is cause 91 explorers don't have torsion bars they have coils springs in front. if it is minor and you are planning on lifting it in the future and want to make do without adjust ing the rear you can add spacers under the opposite coil. But not more than an inch and you will want to check alignment after the adjustment.

hope this helps.

Most of the "leaners" I see in parking lots are because the drivers turned into the parking slot and left their wheels cranked over one direction or the other. For a normal explorer straghtening out the wheels puts the truck back on level.
