Hey all. I am new to the forum and have a question for you.

I have a 96 xlt and the truck is leaning. It is low on the drivers side and I replaced the shocks a little while ago. The Chiltons doesnt really give any trouble shooting tips.

Also, how can I tell if my ball joints need replacing. The truck has 128k on it? Thanks.

You can determine if the ball joints are weak by first lift the front of the truck. then push on the top and then the bottom of the wheel, back and forth. if there is a lot of play in the wheel in this manner, the joints are weak. this is the technique most shops in NYS use to determine the quality of the ball joints for state inspections.

I have done that and I got very little movement. There is no tire wobble when it is driven. I think they are ok, just not sure.

Ball joints won't cause the vehicle to lean, only the tire.

Measure from the chassis at the lower control arm bushing to the ground when parked on a flat and level piece of pavement. Adjust the torsion bars accordingly. Make sure that your sway bar and links are intact before making any adjustments.

It's normal for the driver's side to sag a bit over time. The driver and an extra 100+ lbs of fuel reside on that side of the vehicle at all times.

Thanks Joe, does this require replacement or just an adjustment?
