Started back in September....... I was at the drag strip and my MSD DIS4 ign box died. I first thought it was my fuel pump and was messing around with my fuel pressure and FMU. I then found out the MSD died after testing spark.

MSD replaced the box for free with a new one but I lost the setting on my box done by the tuner (stupid me forgot to write them down before sending it to be fixed)

anyways.... got it back and installed it and it the truck ran so so (Also set me fuel pressure to 39-40 psi..... and dont remember where my FMU by-pass was set at.
after getting it running and driving it was ok..... but wanted to stall from time to time and was really loading up with fuel!!!!! running super rich.

I then marked all the plug wires and removed them....

for some reason I marked the firing order as.....

1628
5374
FRONT

and I have no idea why.... since everyone is telling me and my other explorer is also

4735
8261
FRONT

anyways....... new plugs (gapped to spec), new plug wires, and new hi-output coils and the truck will barely even run!!!!!!!!! and when it does start i need to keep giving it gas to keep i running.... let off of the gas and it dies..... also smoking alot (raw fuel out the pipes)

I have no idea what the heck it going on and its driving me nuts!!!!!! I am going to barrow my buddies new code reader when he gets it and run codes....... if I cant find anything... on the trailer its going and down to the tuner!!!!!!! I am sick of fuel injected cars

Hey bro long time no talk. What is your fuel reading at when you do get it running? I wonder if you are sending it to much fuel and choking it. Also are you sure its fuel coming out the pipes? What color is the smoke?

Hey I don't know if you saw be we are renting out the track and it would be nice to have another X there. check out http://dragday.thepike.net/ for more info.

It sounds like you are having fuel pressure issues. Not knowing how the system you are using works, I can't be any more specific.

Hey- whats up? I have seen you around some. Once in a while I eat lunch at wendys on main street and see you drive by.

I also got the pike e-mail from one of my friends... i was thinking about going but need to get this beast running right. I am wondering if my FMU is really out of wack. I have a by-pass on it and I may have it adjusted wrong and its making it run really rich. I am going to talk to my tuner tomorrow.

I am also thinking about installing a water/methonal injection system on it.... be doing some reading up on the topic and its pretty cool. Instead of a small NOS shot to cool the air temps the guys are using "winter" windshield washer fluid and injecting it into the intake.

later

Dude i can guarantee you that you are running way to rich. Just take it to the dyno and tune the snot out of it.

It would be nice to have you come up to drag day with us.

Well I am getting fed up with MDS.....

I just went out and unplugged my MSD DIS4 box and plugged in the by-pass plug. My trucks fires right and and runs great!!!! although its still running really rich.

Its a brand new MSD DIS4 box.

i have (had) two different friends that used the DIS4 ignition, and both had so many problems that they just took 'em off. might wanna just go back to the stock ignition.

on the rich condition, what kind of fuel pressure are you running? do you have an aftermarket adjustable FPR or are you running the stocker? if you unplug from the FMU, does the rich condition go away?

I have a Aeromotive adjustable fuel reg and a FMU with an adjustable by-pass.

I am running 39-40psi at idle for fuel presure..... the thing that i dont know is...... if I adjust the FMU will that show on my fuel presure guage or not???

I should have went with a crane ign.

I think it doesnt like you anymore. Maybe you should give it to me for a couple of years so i can take a look and see what the problem is. :D Just think, you might come out with some free mods hehe. :p I promise i will be good to it.

rocket 5979 - I dont know.... let me think about it for a while.... lol

rydinhigh - Hey.... I saw your truck at the mustangs unlimited show... I was keeping an eye out but didnt see you. show was kind of died yeaterday.

Dude if you adjust anything with the fuel it should show up on your guage.

I was at the show for an hour not to much going on. I was hanging out by my boys black 03 cobra most of the time.

With my old 2.9L I ran the MSD Offroad (6a) box, it fialed on me within two months of install......

They replaced it for free, second one worked great for a couple years till I yanked the engine.

Could it be the wiring on the dis 4 SETUP?
Ditch the MSD, stock is adequate for lots of HP, maybe Jacobs??

well i hooked up my new x-ray scanner last night and both of my pass side O2 sensors are junk.

It makes sense now if I am thinking of this correctly....

I start the truck up (withOUT the MSD) and its runs and idles but really rich.... I can let it sit running for a while and it just gets richer and richer....... Then the truck will just die.

If the O2 sensors are not working correctly its going to tell the computer that the engine is running lean and needs more fuel.... so it keeps dumping more fuel into the system until it floods itself and dies.
