Truckhaven 2002 Discussion

I'm not sure from Denver but from Sand Diego to Durango Co. we left at about 6:00PM on a Sat. night and drove all night. We had breakfast in Flagstaff at a Dennys at about 5:30AM and watched the Sun rise. I think we pulled into Durango around 12:00 Sunday afternoon. This was in a Jeep Cherokee that had 5.10 gears on 35's so the trip was slow, 65mph the whole way, up and down hills. We also did it during the summer and had probably 1-2 hours of roadside problems due to overheating issues. We were expecting them and that's why we did the trip at night but it was still too hot for the vehicle. A new radiator in Col. fixed the problems. Truckhaven is a great place to wheel. Will you be getting the long distance award or is someone planning to come from further away?

Khris,

The Long distance award might go to another Texan. I plan on Going and I live on the Gulf of Mexico in south Texas. 800 miles just to get out of Texas...

No Kris it might go to another Texan. Me :D

I'll be living in South Carolina by then. Beat that :p

Well, looked it up on mapquest, and it's a 20 hour trip to Borrego Springs (couldn't find an address for Salton City). 20 hours is quite a trip

Hey Gerald, you should stop by Colorado on your way, might make it a little more bearable. I'll show off my tow hooks :D

lol!

Man your moving from one bad state to another! I thought the idea was to improve the living conditions? :D Thats way the hell out there too!

Got no choice :( That's where my son lives. If I want to be a daddy and be a part of his life, that's where I have to go for now. My priorities are in the right place but I agree that it sucks to have to go that far east.

I wish my x had moved to Colorado or somewhere west instead......

20 hours seems kinda long. If my times and memory is correct then it took us 18 hours in a really slow vehicle at a very relaxed pace. If you could run 75mph you could probably knock it down to 16 hours.

Still a long way, and a lot of gas money

Definately!! Are you just coming out for the weekend or are you staying longer? There is so much fun stuff to wheel out there!! You could head out to Glamis, air WAY DOWN and cruise the dunes for a day or two. Also there are some really fun mtn trails about 2 hours from Truckhaven.

I'd love to stick around and do other things, but I have school on Tuesday, and will need most of Monday just to make it back. I might do something on Monday morning, but I'd have to leave by about noon.

Hey two tone when do you plan on getting out here. I maybe able to do a run or two near there a couple days before it like that thursday or friday. let me know. Also it is 12 hours from salton city to pagosa springs But that was in my parents minivan with my cousin going out to move my grandparents:D

I probably won't get there until early friday morning, maybe afternoon. If you'd like to go on friday, I'm game. I'll let you know as the time approaches, I just decided I was going today :D

I am planning on wheling out there friday morning till afternoon evening I think above a few people said that they would be there thursday or friday. Hop in my truck friday night 400 miles north to a friends wedding saturday after wedding back in the truck and back to truckhaven late sat night to wheel sunday and monday if anyone is still out there.

Matt

If I can get the day off from work, I'll try to be out there on Friday. I was looking at the main page of info for the run and it looks like Rick wrote it was happening on the 18th and 19th. Is that a Friday and Sat.? Or am I just reading my calander wrong? I don't have a '02 calender so I just penciled in the dates at the end of Dec. and 18/19 for me come up as a Fri, Sat. Is this correct?

On the first page of this thread Rick changed it to 19-20 :)

Ohhhh, I see, it's a conspiracy to see how long he can make us stay out there!!

1337 miles from here

Coming from Everett, WA it's about 1337 miles so you Texans can kiss the long distance award goodbye.

Cold Shoulder Award???

I'll be driving from Riverside - about 70 miles from Truckhaven. Dan [Starsailor] will be putting me up for the night at his place in Downtown Palm Springs (YEA!) which is about 30 miles from Truckhaven! I think we'll deserve the COLD SHOULDER award, for less miles driven, and fewer gallons guzzled!:p
