Hey all, its been a long while since i posted anything. My 99 Explorer has started to really have issues. I have a heater core that needs to be replaced (thankfully its summer now) also a water pump and the rear hatch isn't opening. Anyone around the twin cities know how to replace the heater core? i read there is a bolt you need to get out from the engine side but want to make sure thats the case.

Also with the issues i said and a front diff that is leaking around the seals should i think about replacing it?

Yes, there is a "hidden" nut near the middle behind the engine. There is a very good thread if you search. Up to you if you want to fix the seals. You may want to tackle the water pump and heater core and see what you feel up to after that. If you have a 5.0, you have a good chance you will have some of the bolts break when you do the pump.

I'm a couple hours north of you in duluth. And if you do end up tackling the water pump load up on wd40 pb blaster or whatever rust penetrate you prefer and shoot the crap out of the water pump bolts.. The long bolts that go though the timing cover as well tend to break so be careful work them back and fourth and sometimes I've found that an impact gun is better than by hand due to the "vibrating" nature of the impact sometimes can keep bolts from breaking.. My front diff was leaking from the sealant silicone thing since they use that instead of gaskets and I just bit the bullet and paid 500 at a dealer to have both diffs flushed and refilled and to have the front diff fixed.. Give us some more specs on your truck because odds are if it's a 5.0 it's worth it to keep it running

It is the 5.0. It runs like a champ, no other leaks to speak of. the heater core i was looking up on here and few other clips on YouTube and it looks do able just not sure how much time i can have to do it. The other issue is the fuel pressure regulator is not working very well so starting it up after its been running is a chore.
