2011 explorer limited
Just bought this 2011 explorer limited and noticed the mileage seems to be on the lower end of the average. So.... I think getting new plugs may help.
Should I get I get irradium or platinum or just go with OEM?
Thanks.

OEM

My buddy has and F150(3.7) and he changed out the plugs and coils and the truck just would not run good and just got worse. So finally asked what plugs he put in, he said whatever AutoZone gave him.....so we bought the Motorcraft plugs, changed them and the trucks runs perfectly :)

Sounds like OEM is the way to go. Thanks all for your input!

Yes OEM, for this engine you have to take off the intake manifold to replace the back 3 spark plugs, go with the tried and true OEM so you do the job once. While you are at it replace the PCV valve, is in the back, will be seen after you take off the manifold. Good luck!

What is the mileage on the Explorer? The Manual recommends changing the plugs every 100k miles but sooner would be a good idea.
Your Manual has the scheduled maintenance recommendations in it along with the Ford part numbers/specifications.

Even if the plugs are good for 100,000 miles the issue can be removing the steel plugs from an aluminum head after 100,000 miles. There is a chance of the plugs damaging the threads in the aluminum head upon removal. The factory plugs are installed "dry". Upon recommendation from a tech at a Ford dealership I removed the factory plugs at 60,000 miles and they were creaky and stiff to remove. I used OEM Motorcraft replacement plugs and added a dab of anti seize to the threads and torqued to a 15% less spec. Luckily I have the 2.3 EB and the plugs are easy to do :).
