Yeah, I had to replace the fuel tank in my 95. Got everything dropped, and the old pump out. For ***** and giggles, i tested it against the battery, and IT WORKED. I used the newer pump anyways, but I believe my issue was actually the fuel pump connection on the inside of the frame rail on the passenger side. By disconnecting and reconnecting it a couple times it seemed to clear the junk off it. might be worth a try. Not saying it can't be the pump though, so it might just be a temp fix. My truck had 241k on it, and I believe the pump had been done once based on some splices on it.

Does anyone know what that noise is that comes from the passenger side engine compartment when the key is turned on?

prolly a relay. The Fuel pump relay is over there, under the power distribution box which is a rectangle thing with all the big fuses in it. They'll chatter when going bad.

That box is on the drivers side, at least on my '95 it is and its def. coming from the passenger side. Its more of a humming noise than a chatter.
