I have a vibration going through my 2001 explorer sport and the steering wheel shakes a little. Only happens when i'm driving not when i'm stopped. Had friend look he said he thinks its the rear u joint can that cause that to happen? How do you tell if u joint is gone?

if the steering wheel shakes when this vibration happens I would start with the front end AND start with the wheels tires (check tire pressure, rotate see if it goes away a little)

yes a driveshaft u joint can cause driveline vibrations, but usually they are felt in your butt not the steering wheel
Start with an inspection of your wheels/tires then the front suspension/steering components

How many miles on the 01 Sport?

And welcome...

i have the same ride as you....interested in how many miles and what your problem ends up being. I have 100K and no u-joint troubles. probably a front ssupension thing as 410 said

it was the the u joint

replaced u joint it was shot and the problem is gone. Oh it has 97000 miles

What u joint? The one at the rear of the driveshaft?

yes

yes the rear one. Is yours doing same thing mine was?
