I'm about to order new U-joints for my truck and the dilemma is what size are the ones I need?

Catalog says that there are two different sizes of u-joints - how do I tell which ones I need since I have no idea what kind of gearing was in the truck (I got axles off another truck)

anyone?

thanks,

huh? let me explain then... I'm looking at the front differential and front drive shaft. Need to replace u-joints but catalog says that there are two different kinds of u-joints for front axle shafts... drive shaft joints I've got.

there is one part number for u-joints for models with 3.27, 3.55 and 3.72 axle ratio and another for models with 3.45 and 4.10 axle ratio.

I got those axle shafts from a guy and have no idea what was the ratio in the differential that these parts came out of. How do I check? Any stampings? numbers? symbols?

thanks,

Ohh the axle shafts -- I thought the driveshafts only.

...for the front axles try the spicer 5-760x...that's what i have...;)

and I thought that there is no difference but LMC catalog says something else... called them but they could not provide me with any answers...

might be the same part - different number.

...i think the other ones are a smaller cap size......as in, that is the difference of the 2 axle u joints...

OK, thanks - will order them then... appreciate it.

what about front drive shaft... any ideas on these u-joints? part number?

No, there's no difference.

Whoever wrote the programming for the look-up computers that most places use was a moron.

Axles with a 3.45 ratio are the so-called "hybrid" D28/35 axles sometimes seen in Rangers, but ANYTHING external to the differential housing is exactly the same stuff as a regular D35 axle (u-joints, brake parts, knuckles/spindles, wheelbearings, etc.). 4.10 ratio axles could be either a 28/35 hybrid, or a real D35.

duh... but when you try to order and they come-up with that kind of question it really shots you down... you're like WTF?

I'm looking at Spicer stuff for the axle shafts... might want to replace drive shaft joints as well - 1310 right?
