Sorry for a new thread, but did a search, and so many posts about sync problems couldn't find what I was looking for and seemed not to be right for the sticky on "bugs"

I just bought a demo 2011 X. Has the MFT. I was looking at updating it and in the update and customization section of syncmyride.com it had the system status checker tool.

not knowing what version I had I downloaded that first I installed it and seemed to work fine, then figured I would come back and download the update. Now the updated software doesn't show up.

the little box on the right shows this
Sync VersionGen2 - V2.4
Confirmed installations
BT4T-14D546-AG
SYNC compatible software
SYNC compatible software

I am actually a little confused as to what is the most recent, as the sticky seems to list 2.11 as the most recent, calling the 2.4 an older version which doesn't make sense to me.

wikipedia - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Sync

seems to list a V5 as the most recent.

Either way it seems that what I have is an older version.

all I have on the update page now is an option to report successful install and download the status checker tool, but not the software.

am I missing something? How do I get to download the update again?

thanks - first thread

Upgrades can only be done by the dealer !!

wow, thanks.

I could have sworn it showed a download for the update before I downloaded the status checker.

it is amazing how awesome and how horrible this is all at the same time

Fredrige, this is an awesome explorer the ride, feature etc.... There are some issues and some are horrified ones but ford sold over 180000 explorer and the percentage is not that high with bugs, some issues are with the user that my not be that tech-e but all and all you'll love this explorer i love the one i have since feb 21 no issues just upgraded to 2.11 software and it works great. But one thing that worries me is whay did the dealer not upgrade the mft when you got it know that's a bad salesman and dealership because they should have done the upgrade this way you dont have to take a day from work too do this. But hey there is a lesson learn every day !!! Enjoy your explorer it's well deserved !!!!

Hi, Fredridge!

2.11 is the newest available update for MyFord Touch (MFT). Like NEWPORTNJ said, you will have to go to the dealer in order to update your software. If you are not having any problems with 2.4, you really don't need to update to 2.11.

Enjoy your new Explorer and let me know if you have any SYNC/MFT questions!

Rebecca

only had it for less that a week, any problems have been relatively minor.

I would like the faster speed people are talking about, but would prefer to avoid problems also.

It did reboot itself this morning, but started back fine after it rebooted

Hey Fredridge. This has been discussed many times on this forum. For the versions, consider the number after the decimal point to be a whole number. Therefore, 11 is higher than 4. Version 2.11 is the latest. I also have 2.4 and have had no major problems with it so I am reluctant to change it at this time. I picked up my Limited in March.

wow, thanks.

I could have sworn it showed a download for the update before I downloaded the status checker.

I saw the same thing. I just bought my ex and when I signed up for my sync account online it showed I needed to download 2.11 software (I have 2.8). I wasn't ready to do it then because I just got the vehicle and hadn't even tried using the system yet. I went back the next day and when I was done reading the instructions on how to update using a USB drive, the syncmyride site no longer said I had an update waiting. I KNOW it was prompting me for 2.11 the day before.

Do I have to go to the dealer for this or can it be done with a USB drive myself? If I can do it, how/where do I download the update now that it disappeared on me? Thanks in advance!

JUST REMEMBER, IF YOU'RE HAVING ISSUES WITH YOUR SOFTWARE OR MFT (HINT) GET YOUR FREE UPDATE....DO NOT i REPEADT DO NOT PAY FOR THIS SERVICE!!!

I follow Tio M, thanks. I just don't understand why the website "changed it's mind" on me or why it would tell you how to do it yourself if you have to go to the dealer to get it done.

New versions have to loaded by the dealer. A software update to an existing version can be downloaded from the Sync website.

So to the existing version we can update ourselves? Is it via USB?

Can anyone explain why we can't update the software yet and continue to have to take the vehicle to the dealer? Seems odd that Ford sold the system as being able to be updated at home, but 9 months into release we can't do it yet...

Why did my update on sync my ride disappear?

If you go to your account on www.syncmyride.com and it shows that there is an update waiting to be loaded, then Yes, you can use a USB stick. The website also explains the procedure as to how to do this.

You can update the software to an existing version if in your Sync account there is a notification. You just cannot install a new version (2.11). Perahps the dealer has to do something else that we cannot. Your question would be better directed to the Ford Team.

Please help me understand.

An update means to me that you are putting a newer version of the software into the vehicle. So, using this logic, if I currently have 2.8, I should see the update to 2.11 available for download. Also, I should have seen the update to 2.8 when I had 2.4. But, neither of those were available on the website, and currently aren't as I'm looking at it right now. To the other post, what use would the current version installed be? I guess if you needed to reload the software, but not sure that is what the consumers are looking for.

I have had the vehicle for 9 months, and not once has there been an update available, or any downloadable system software. I continually check for updates since my system works as well as a square ball, so I'm thoroughly confused by those of you that are saying their should be updates on the website.

Thanks for helping clarify!

falkirk18,

The way I understand it is that there are two types of updates. The update that changes the version number from 2.4 to 2.8 to 2.11 and minor updates that keep the same number but fix bugs. The first one can only be done by dealer. The second can be done by consumers. I'm still new at this but if this is correct, then Ford should make this a little more clear on their site. I can see how this can get confusing.

Technically you are correct, Going from 2.8 to 2.11 would be considered an update. However, the only updates owners can do via syncmyride, is a software update to the version you currently already have. Usually these are to correct some problems with the current version. 2.4 and 2.8 are SYNC Versions. If you log on to your Sync account and it indicates a download is waiting, then that download actually updating the software for the version you already have. It does not change the SYNC Version. It is just fixing or adding some programs.
I'm still on V2.4. The latest version is 2.11
