Ok Hello All. First off,
I LOVE THIS SITE.

You ever have one of those "I don't want to sell it to him, but he needs a vehicle and I don't have a place for it.
BUT THEN REGRET SETS IN.
I had attempted selling my 93 4Dr to someone last october. Well, he doesn't want ti, care to or even try to fix anything and it's always full throttle when he's behind the wheel. LONG story short I REPOED THE TRUCK. Got the truck home and having issues getting it to stay running after it was started. Melted wire harness coming off the bell housing. I usually will get in there and figure it out. Well as life would have it I got dealt the "lose your vision slowly at age 54" card. I am legally blind. I find myself getting frustrated and even just saying "Hell with it" and put tools away. Drivers side the harness right behind the coolant and washer fluid tank, there are 3 plugs under the electronic module that I am not sure what it is. Now finally getting to the pount. From the fender across to the side of the motor, can pieces of the wire harness be sorted and separated to replace them or am I going to end up with 27 ft 7 inches of way more wire harness than I really want to deal with.? There's a few wires that layed on the exhaust , melted thru and drive me crazy blowing the fuel pump 30 amp big fuse under hood. At present I am still plaques with intermittent fuel pump whine telling me it's working or not. I need this information when someone has some good news. Again I get flustered and tend to drag things out like this piat. My apologiws.

I regret every vehicle I have ever sold, donated or traded in, except one. Its normal, but even though the vehicle is gone, the memories are yours.

However, what does this have to do with your title?

I got the truck back. I'm trying to figure out if the wire harness can be "dissected " so to speak. Or will I have to go from passenger headlight to driver taillight and replace sure harness. I have trouble seeing much detail anything much more than 1 1/2 ft fromme.

Contact @NICE59FORDF100 . He has all the wiring information and schematics that you will need. He has completely rewired a few Explorers himself and made his own wire harnesses for certain applications.

You're talking about the harness that runs the length of the drivers side frame rail? I actually rebuilt that same harness for mine. It's fairly easy to do. Mine was in pretty good shape but some of the wires were chewed up by rodents so I used new loom, some Tesa tape and new wiring and went to town with my soldering gun. I got carried away and reloomed and taped the entire thing front to back. Be sure to keep the connectors and clean them up. Another option is check Ebay for a used wiring harness or go to a parts yard and take one off of an Explorer from there. That actually might be your best option

To the OP-
You could always cut out the melted wiring and splice in new?

I have thought about splicing new wires. The part of the harness that melted is I believe the wires down to the autotrans. Up along the drivers side of block and I believe runs over to the drive a tire inner fender. 2 or 3 plugs under and behind the EEC test plug and almost under the brake master cylinder. But yea, I went to picapart the other day. I'm gonna try to get there today too.My biggest problem is just that I'm legally blind and came see stuff very far away.I
If I figure it out at wrecking yard I will update here and thanks For the assistance.

I would get pictures to help me explain, but if I remember I never was successful in posting pics on here.
I have schematics in the Haynes and Chiltons.

You know what, I will figure it out. It will take me 2-3 times longer to do it, But I can do it myself.

If you find a similar vehicle at the junkyard you can most likely just pull the part of the harness you need... there is one long run with ABS and fuel pump wiring that goes from under the brake booster to the rear of the vehicle that can be removed in one piece. You almost have to have the fuel tank out to remove it though.

Any of it can be replaced but I would be tempted to try repairing what you have by splicing in new wire.

@BKennedy, thank you for that information. I will see if I can afford one this next payday.

No problem, those books are a huge timesaver. I don't know anything about your area, and if its First Generation Explorer heavy at the junk yards. If so, you could pull the entire engine compartment wiring harness for cheap. I have one for a spare I pulled out of a 1994 donor car, but I keep everything I might need someday.
