just an update

at napa this part it called the "canister purge solenoid"...the part #is correct and I going to pick mine up now!!

Well I went to my local Ford dealer and bought a E6ZZ-9C915-A Valve Assy for my 91 Sport just shy of 200,000 miles--otherwise known as the purge solenoid as I've had extreme fuel smell on an intermittent basis for a while now. We went on a 150 mile trip for vacation and it was fine--a couple of whiffs of fuel but no big deal. Today, I went out to run an errand driving about 3 miles with NO smell--when I came out 5 min later, the smell was as strong as its ever been ALL THE WAY AROUND THE CAR!!! I'm walking around sniffing it in the parking lot because it was just as strong at the back compared to the front--people must of thought I was crazy. There are no leaks at all and the tank sender has been replaced for a while now--my mech was sure this was the cause of the smell--but says the top was rusting off so it needed to be replaced anyway.

Any ideas on what to do next?

Barry :(

Just an FYI, the evap canister is located above the spare tire on 95+ models.

i got a CEL for this today, 'EVAP - gross leak', it started up a day after a steam crossing...
I just erased the light - are there any long term problems with leaving it this way...
