My 20 explorer st hood has uneven gaps. Is this something thats common in these? Ive noticed it on a few other explorers at the dealer. Also the front passenger door, when it is closed, sits deeper than the rear door (see pic). So it looks sunk in. Is this normal aswel? I showed this to dealer they said they can send it to body shop to have them try to fix it. And that the door has to come off. Not something im interested in since i dont want em turning bolts.

Yours is minor in comparison... I can fit my hand between the hood and head light. More typical crap out of Chicago. Since 2013 We have bought 2 Brand new Explorers and 2 Aviators and all of them had some kind of issue that should have been caught and fixed at the factory. The only way to likely get an improvement is if people start caring and forcing warranty repairs to fix these issues. The problem is most people that buy them do not care and never say anything.

Actually, the problem is the unions in Chigago. They have too much power. As a result, Ford can't get rid of crappy employees.

Yeah but process engineers should/could have controls in place that prevent some of these issues. Those are not union employees.

Welcome to the Forum.
Unfortunately, it is far too common. The driver's door on my previous 2017 Platinum was also somewhat out of alignment but since it didn't cause any issues and was a lease, I didn't bother taking the service manager's offer of having the body shop adjust it. My Aviator, thankfully, hasn't suffered from any of these defects. There are also similar posts in the 5th gen forum.

Wait till you see the gaps in the interior. My rear bumper on the passenger side also has a nice lil gap, noticed it when I was detailing it.

Not perfect and was one of the reasons why it was hit bad with the reviews vs the competition. But overall, to me, its not a huge deal. I have to look at it close in order for me to spot them. No one else besides me and my sibling noticed these imperfections anyways, 90% avg people wont either.

hi, my 22 aviator has terrible fit and finish
at doors and hood. I'm not a fan of anyone trying to make adjustments so i'll live with it. i bought new lincoln marks back in the 70s and 80s and don't recall any issues. jumped to jaguar and their fit and finish was perfect.
just a shame that we can't get the quality that we're paying for.

It's not just the UAW in Chicago, it's industry wide, and infects other unions too. I work in a union steel mill under the control of the united steel workers union and we have the same issue, a bunch of lazy good for nothings who just come in to collect a paycheck and the rest of us have to pick up the slack for them and do twice as much work.

Right most all of the body panels you have showed images of can be adjusted without needing to remove the door or hood. The hood has screw type rubber bumpers that can be adjusted up or down to help align and fill any gaps. The doors also have latch adjustments and hinge adjustments to move it in and out to sit flush.
