Hello,
While shopping for a new Explorer, I stumbled across your site and was surprised to find such Explorer purists! I am also a lover of Explorers, beginning with the 1998 two-toned green and gold Eddie Bauer owned by my parents. My husband began working at the Louisville Assembly Plant in 2002 and has probably laid hands on many of the Explorers, Sports, and Mountaineers on this site. When we were ready to begin our family, my husband snuck me in "the yard" and I walked through rows and rows of ready-to-be-shipped Explorers. After seeing every color combination and option known to man, we ordered a 2006 Explorer Limited in Dark Stone with black leather and the first touch screen navigation. Several weeks later, my husband realizes he is indeed working on our Explorer for the allotted 44 seconds! He timed it as it went down the line, was able to meet it at the end, start it for the first time, and drive it off the line. We took delivery on December 5, 2005, and it was the most beautiful Explorer that I had ever seen!
The babies came, and we watched each one go through every size car seat and eventually graduate out of them. At over 186,000 miles, the Explorer had been around longer than the kids and was part of the family! That all ended, however, on February 14, 2017. I was traveling to clinical (I'm in anesthesia school) a little after 5:00 AM and was broadsided in an intersection by a young man who ran his red light. Suddenly, inexplicably, my beloved Explorer was totaled (by a Chrysler, of all things!). I cannot say enough wonderful things about how it took the blow and protected me from devastating injuries. I now own a beautiful Kentucky Wildcat blue Platinum (otherwise known as Blue Jeans Metallic) with black Nirvana leather. Needless to say, the technology difference from my '06 is astounding and I learn something new every time I drive it. I am curious, though, if anyone has a recent recommendation for a windshield shade or guide me to a relevant thread? I searched the site, and didn't see any posts regarding this topic since 2014. Thanks in advance!
