unlocking rear hatch

ok this is most likely a stupid question bet i have never used my key to unlock the rear hatch. how do you unlock/lock the rear hatch with a key, do i just put the key in and turn. push and turn, i cant figure it out i am thinking something is wrong with the lock i have lubed the pins inside the lock with no luck. just kinda curious never needed to use it just wanted to try it one day i wouldnt think i could be that complicated unless im just an idiot. any help would be awesome

I am assuming your truck has the same button/key lock as my 98 XLT. IF it does the key lock works like all others on the truck. After unlocking you can open the doors (4 fronts and the hatch) as well as pushing the button to release the hatch glass.

mine must be all messed up i will probably have to take in out and clean out all the pins or even just take it to a lock smith and see what is wrong with it

Take out the lock cylinder and soak it in solvent. It probably has not been used in 8 yrs or so. They get gummed up. Let it soak for a couple of days at least.
