2008 White Limited V8
Hey everyone. I just bought a 2008 white limited a few weeks ago. I have the factory Sync with voice activated nav, also a touch screen. Fords owner website is showing that vehicle has not had its sync updated since 1.0 was installed in 2007. have there been any noteworthy updates released for the gen 1 sync platform since then? I have googled for a change log but did not have much luck finding anything.

I'm not sure about anything noteworthy, but it can't hurt to update your vehicle to the latest version of SYNC. When I first bought my 2010 Sport Trac last fall, I checked, and it had never been updated. So I downloaded and updated the latest version of SYNC.

You might be able to get an update to Sync 2.x but you have to ask for it. I think it depends on your build date. TSB 9-11-8. At a minimum, you can get version 1.3 but I don't see that it has added anything in particular to my vehicle. YMMV.

So I downloaded and updated the latest version of SYNC.

How did you download and update the version? I may take ours into the dealer for them to update it, but if it is something I can potentially do myself would rather do that than spend half a day heading to a dealer, waiting around etc.

No way to do it yourself, dealership only. To get mine updated to 1.3, it took about 45 minutes and they charged me $60. I haven't brought it back yet to try to get an update to 2.x.

Hey everyone!

rayethan is correct. Version 2.1 is the latest software available for 2008 & 2009 vehicles with SYNC. This update can only be installed at the dealer. Contact one to schedule an appt: https://owner.ford.com/dealer-locator.html

It's a shame the software is not available, Ford even show instructions on their website to update the Sync software after selecting a vehicle. However, when clicking on the link to the software updates page after logging in, it says its a dealer installed update and to make an appointment.

Shame really, the instructions seem very simple for anyone savvy enough with a USB drive!!

Hi naiku,

I understand your concerns. Most update are available online; however, this version adds two new features: Vehicle Health Report and 911 Assist. Because of this, a dealer is the only way to obtain the software. It's not as simple as uploading it to a USB drive.
